I love this time of year because routines are smooth, we know each other, and we’re able to work together as a team. Our mystery narratives are rolling in, we are just about to start learning about Jamestown, we launch an interesting module with HMH this week, and we test on dividing fractions soon. The adventures of Scariana Grande 💀

She comes every October and leaves on Halloween. She never makes a mess 😂 but likes to move around the room. The kids love to see where she is or what she’s up to and they especially love if she’s sitting in their seat. 😉

Her dog, Indiana Bones, usually joins the last week, too!

Do you keep your anchor charts up?

We have a wall of cabinets and it’s the perfect place to hold them, since we can easily reference them.

Sometimes I stack and layer them and sometimes they just come down. The kids love to take them home (even in fifth!).

I have each cabinet door broken down by subject, which helps us all stay organized.

And, because I’ve been doing this a while 🙃, I do have favorite chart paper (in three sizes 😂), markers, tape, and paper that I consistently use. Comment LINKS and I’ll send my faves your way! 👇🏼

We use these math task cards ALL the time but my class this year especially loves to solve when the cards are all around the room. I typically have them just record in their math spirals but any paper works, too.

We also use them in small groups, in partnerships, and as an early finisher activity. When they’re around the room like this, I usually have my students work solo but sometimes we do pairs.

Just print, cut, fold, and staple. We use them year after year after year!

I know it’s currently SUNDAY but let’s look at the room at the END of a week. 😂

Our walls are full of mentor sentence and language learning, anchor charts, and student work.

Language wall: This gets built throughout the week and someone usually volunteers to clean it off during soft starts on Fridays. We integrate the teaching points in HMH with a mentor sentence from a picture book we read during morning meeting on Monday.

Roots and word parts: Comes from HMH and we supplement for practice and review.

Focus wall: I change it out before I leave on Friday and it comes from Amanda Garcia.

Anchor charts: These doors hold everything we’ve learned that week or the week before.

State studies: We do a new map every two weeks and I just rotate the maps out as they’re turned in.

We use our cabinet doors to hold the anchor charts we create and swap them out regularly.

Sometimes the kids ask to take them home, which I love and is so sweet.

I always make anchor charts WITH the kids and this year’s class loves to use the “teacher markers” to write on them, too.

It’s been HOT in California and water has been a much needed school supply. But, spills and tips can cause distractions or damage to Chromebooks.

So, we keep them on the side counter but if there’s not a specific “zone,” they kind of spread out to the entire counter. 🙃

Enter some artificial turf squares and nonslip gripper mat, cut down to size. They’re easy to access, don’t tip over, and stay far from technology and textbooks.

🍋New Lemonade Business Resource!🍋

I have used this for years with math groups and it’s finally “TPT” ready.

You can have students do this on their own BUT I like to do it in small groups so they can really bounce ideas off each other and put their math skills in action.

With this project, the students walk through the process of planning, building, and designing a lemonade stand. They even write to investors and ask for money. 😉

The kids really do love this and we usually celebrate with some in-class lemonade.
